Obituary

William E. Lindamood, 91, of Tiptonville, TN, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at his residence.

William was born on November 20, 1929, in Jackson, TN. His parents were Maleita Everett Smith and step-father, George Wynn Smith; and his late father, Edward Coleman Lindamood.

He was a member of the Tiptonville Presbyterian Church, where he had served as treasurer, elder, and chairman of the session of the Presbyterian Church, and was very active in the Presbytery. He was a member of the Tiptonville Lions Club, where he was chairman of the sight fund helping Lake County residents obtain glasses.

He was a former scoutmaster of explorer troop 80, and had served as a Lake County Election Commissioner for many years.

He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, prior to graduating from Harvard University. He returned home to marry Helen Fumbanks and start his family and begin his farming career. He assisted his father in managing Phoenix Oil Mill and Phoenix Gin Company. Mr. Lindamood stayed very active in his farming and gin business up until his time of death. He was involved in the cotton industry, a member of the National Cotton Council and past president of the Southern Cotton Ginners Association. He was named National Cotton Farmer of the Year in 1970 and also the Southern Ginners Association Ginner of the Year in 2003.

Philanthropy was very important to him and he supported many different groups, including the Presbyterian Church and LifeBeat Pregnancy Care Center. He had also helped many Lake County students to attend college.

He dearly loved his children, grandchildren, family, and his community.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Tiptonville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Walter Lockhart officiating. Burial will be in Lake Memorial Gardens. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive visitors from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the Tiptonville Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Fumbanks Lindamood of Tiptonville, TN; three sons, William E. Lindamood, Jr. (Teri Curvo) of Memphis, TN, Benjamin L. Lindamood (Joyce) of Nashville, TN and John F. Lindamood (Cherry) of Tiptonville, TN; a daughter, Kathryn Clegg (Chris) of Dyersburg, TN; a sister, Mary Lynn Martin of Mississippi; six grandchildren, Mary Watson, John Edward Lindamood, Ginny Campbell, John Michael Lindamood, Maleita Lindamood and Daniel Clegg; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Twyford; and three brothers, George Wynn Smith, Jr., Edward Lindamood and Buddy Lindamood.

Pallbearers will be Steve Hensley, Rob Hensley, Greg Lucas, Jimmy Fumbanks, Daniel Clegg and John Michael Lindamood. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Sumara, David Mooring, Vance Shoaf, Daniel Arant, Jerry Chadwick and Michael Wiggins.
