David A. Wood, 72, of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, formerly of Dyersburg, Tennessee passed away Monday, December 9, 2019 in Fort Walton Beach Florida.

David was born in Dyersburg in 1947, to the late William and Daisie Wood. He worked for Modern Woodmen of America for many years before his retirement. As District Manager, he received many awards and accolades. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He had a passion for playing golf (anytime, anywhere), Tennessee Vols, fishing, reading about sports heroes, spending the day at the beach, traveling and making friends wherever he went.

David pitched for Dyersburg in the Little League World Series and had a lifetime love of the sport. He graduated Dyersburg High School in 1965 and attended Lambuth University. Grateful for his love and life we all shared, he will be extremely missed.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2019 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Loren Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2019 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Shelia Hammond Wood; a son, Chris and a daughter Stacy(Brad) Sanko and two grandchildren Jonah and Annie Sanko of Niceville, Florida. David is also survived by two brothers, Tommy Wood of Southaven, Mississippi and Joe(Lana) Wood of Dyersburg, Tennessee.

He is preceded in death by his parents William T. and Daisie Wood.

Pallbearers will be John Bill Childress, James Winchester, Ronnie Vaughn, Evan Hammond, Mason Hammond and Ryan Wood.
