Woodrow "Woody" Scearce, 82, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at his residence.
He was a retired mechanic, deputy and road-crew supervisor for the Dyer County Sheriff's Department, a Baptist, a member of the American Legion and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Scearce; four sons, Marvin Scearce and wife, Janna, of Halls, Johnny Scearce and wife, Brenda, of Blue Ridge, Ga., Mike Scearce and wife, Evette of McKaysville, Fla. and Stephen Scearce and wife, Courtney, of Dyersburg; five stepdaughters, Jeannie Vickery and husband, Tony, of Halls, Anita Shelton and husband, Jimmy, Renee Kelly and husband, Tim, Monica Jowers and husband, Mike, and Michelle Koele, all of Dyersburg; two stepsons, Ronnie Terrell of Ripley and James Hawkins Jr. of Newbern; two sisters, Lizzie Haynes of Danville, Va. and Betty Connelly of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Robert Scearce of Danville, Va.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Scearce; and a sister, Barbara Saunders.
Pallbearers will be Jason Scearce, Jonathan Scearce, Ronnie Terrell, Chad Scearce, Shawn Scearce and Nathan Rose. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Willard, Richard Hill and James Motley.
