W.L. Bishop, age 84, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital.

Born on December 27, 1940, in Finley, TN, he was the beloved son of the late Franklin Bedford Bishop and Hattie May Wheeler Bishop. W.L. was a dedicated assembly worker for International Harvester and had a passion for watching westerns and keeping up with historical events. He enjoyed listening to music, especially the tunes of Elvis Presley. A true patriot, W.L. proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. It was during his service in France that he met the love of his life, Marie Grall. They were looking forward to celebrating 64 wonderful years of marriage on July 28, 2025. W.L. was a loving husband, father, and son, and a devoted member of the Church of Christ.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends prior to the service beginning at 12 p.m. and continuing until the service time.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Bishop; two sons, Douglas Bishop and Phillip Bishop (Becky); a daughter, Cathy; nine grandchildren, John David, Jeremy Bishop, Andrew Bishop, Hannah Bishop, Emily, Kayla Owsley, Clayton Owsley, Erica Lowery and Amanda Gibson; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, W.L. was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Bishop; a brother, James Bishop; and two sisters, Jennie Helen Gibson and Frances Peery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
