A native of Dyer County, Tennessee, William Peery Tubbs was born on December 4, 1921 at Boothspoint. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ester Lee Jennings Tubbs; his parents, Carl and Oberia Peery Tubbs; three brothers, Quinton Tubbs, Jim Tubbs and Chad Tubbs; a sister, June Tubbs Wiley; a grandson, Gregory Heath Tidwell and a stillborn daughter, Mary Anne Tubbs.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn King and Mrs. Alice Anne Wake officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his three daughters, Alice Anne Tubbs Wake (Jim), Nancy Tubbs Boutwell (Bill) and Joyce Tubbs Thompson; grandchildren: Phillip Dale Tidwell II, Peyton William Stevens (Ashley), Emy Katherine Thompson; great-grandchildren, Claire Anne Tidwell, Bailey Caroline Tidwell, Jocelyn Meleia Stevens; his brother Ted Tubbs, sister-in-laws, Grace Jennings Davidson and Peggy Tubbs.
During his business years, he worked for many companies including Western Associates and Texas Refinery Products and an U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. After serving his country, he returned home to his wife in Dyersburg in January 1946.
Of utmost importance to him was his membership at Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he enjoyed teaching a men's class for over 50 years.
A Christian man, he helped many friends, family and strangers in their times of need. Among his talents were his love of letter writing and story-telling.
His smile, laugh, and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all of us.
Members of Friendship Men's Sunday School Class of Hillcrest Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
