William E. Anderson, 87, of Jackson, formerly of Dyersburg, died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at his residence.
William was a self-employed residential contractor that built over 250 homes in the Dyersburg area. He was a member of Northbrook Church in Three Way, TN and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He fought at Okinawa and the Philippines, where he received the Purple Heart Medal. He was an avid gardener and member of Jackson Meadow Veterans Group. While he lived in Dyersburg, he attended Dyersburg Church of God and was a member of the Dyer County Builders Association.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Robbins, Pastor Chuck Maxwell and Pastor Hirchie Schaffner officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Sue R. Anderson of Jackson; two daughters, Diane Autry and husband, Bob, of Friendship and Mitzi Fisher and husband, Louis, of St. Augustine, FL; two sisters, Shirley Arnett of Samburg and Mary Lee Kennedy of Anderson, AL; three grandchildren, Jill Autry Donnell and husband, William, Jamie Autry and wife, Marcie, and B.J. Fisher; and three great-grandchildren, Braden Donnell, Ella Catherine Donnell and Kaplan Autry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tolley and Kathleen Reeves Anderson; two sisters, Beulah Wheeler and Eula Willis; and four brothers, B.G. Anderson, Junior Anderson, Dan Smith and Freeman Smith.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Autry, William Donnell, B.J. Fisher, Braden Donnell, Dennis Anderson and Scott Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Gooch, Eldon Mustain, Brad Holbrook and Jerry Douglas Bargery.
