Walter A. Shumate, Jr., 75, of Tiptonville, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

He was a retired farmer, member of First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville, member of Hickman Country Club, avid golfer and a commercial fisherman.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville with the Rev. Marita Burkeen officiating. Burial will be in Tiptonville City Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Survivors include his two daughters, Sunny Gale Berry of Tiptonville and Felisha Darden of Jackson; six grandchildren, Astin Berry, Cliff Berry, Jr., Nikki McAlexander, Drew Spain, Taylor Spain and Landon Spain; and four great-grandchildren, Kaleigh Berry, Sterling Duncan, Stone McAlexander and Slayde Belle McAlexander.

He was preceded in death by his son, Walter Shumate IV; and his parents, Walter and Gladys Gholson Shumate.

Pallbearers will be Terry Petty, Jimmy Yates, Bill Rogers, Bobby Joe Jones, Alan Coffey, Shelby Barker, Jr. and Ryan Boyd. Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Downing, Jerry Don Yates, Shelby Barker, Sr., Jack Haynes, Jr., Billy Richardson, Billy Roberts and Tim Naifeh.
