Walter Serlie Howell, 87, of Tiptonville, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at his residence.

He was a retired farmer and was a member of Midway Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Tiptonville Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Wells and the Rev. Kenneth Ballinger officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Hester Howell of Tiptonville; two daughters, Shirley Cox and Teresa Tacker, both of Tiptonville; four sons, Milton Howell of Tiptonville, Charlie Howell of Hickman, KY, Walter L. Howell of Houston, TX and Richard Howell of Cottage Hills, IL; a brother, Roy B. Howell of Memphis; a half-sister, Nancy Fleming; a step-sister, Brenda Jacobson of Van Nuys, CA; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Boatman Howell and Betty Ann Hensley; and a brother, Billy Howell.

Pallbearers will be Chris Tacker, Ben Howell, Daryl Cox, Michael Rouse, Billy Ray Howell and James Bryant. Honorary pallbearers will be Stacy Rivers, William Rivers, Tim Watkins and Brady Moore.
