Walter Slayden Hicks, 74, of Tiptonville, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2015 at his residence.
He was a retired carpenter.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Tiptonville Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Archie Larry and Bro. Kenny Quillen officiating. Burial will be in Lake Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his two daughters, Melinda Shell and husband, Paul, of Ridgely and Donna Coleman of Tiptonville; two sons, Walter Slayden Hicks, Jr. of Newbern and Lonnie Vaughn and wife, Jamie, of Tiptonville; a sister, Brenda York of Durand, MI; a brother, Lloyd Hicks of Indianapolis, IN; nine grandchildren, Angela Burns, Will Shell, Scotty Hicks, Chris Shell, Amber Shell, Hunter Vaughn, Dalton Vaughn, Zac Coleman, and Chase Coleman; and seven great-grandchildren, Samantha Hicks, Caden Shell, Adrianna Hicks, Sarah Kate Shell, Aaliyah Shell, Ethan Shell, and Kaylee Lentz.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Vaughn Hicks; a son, Donnie Hicks; his parents, William and Jewel Macklin Hicks; a sister, Linda Stewart; three brothers, Elzie Hicks, Ray Hicks, and Randolph Hicks; and a great-grandson, Blake Burns.
Pallbearers will be Will Shell, Josh Quillen, Bryan Avery, Kevin Avery, Brent Work, and Travis Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Hayes Cagle, Johnny Williams, Johnny Whitson, Bobby Upson, and Doug Leland.
