Walter Ewell Hastings, 80, of Dyersburg, died Friday, March 12, 2010 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
He was a real estate broker and developer with Hastings Realty, a member, deacon and Bible teacher at Parr Avenue Church of Christ, a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War serving two tours, former director of First Citizens National Bank, served on the advisory board of Florida College in Tampa, Fla., named Outstanding Dyer County Farmer of the Year in 1960 and Outstanding Tennessee Farmer of the Year in 1960, served on the Dyersburg Planning Commission, was a pioneer in the real estate industry in Dyer County and a lifelong resident of Dyer County.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Parr Avenue Church of Christ with Bro. Scott Owen officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. today at Dyersburg Funeral Home and Monday from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Vivian Hastings; a son, Lee Hastings and wife, Annetta, of Dyersburg; a daughter-in-law, Emily Hastings of Brentwood; a sister, Jonnie Finch and husband, Donald, of Palm Coast, Fla.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Ralph and Janice Reynolds of Dyersburg; four grandchildren, Camden Hastings, Tinsley Hastings, Sloan Hastings and Olivia Hastings; three nieces, Eva Hall, Amanda Finch and Blair Chitwood; and a nephew, Michael Reynolds.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jon E. Hastings; and his parents, Murph and Eva Hastings.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Still, Michael Reynolds, Dennis Miller, Kim Peckenpaugh, Lonnie Robinson, Keith French, Jeff Heathcott and James Hendrix. Honorary pallbearers will be Stallings Lipford, Dr. Ralph Reynolds, Parks Thurmon, Melvin Wilson, Bill Kelly, Harold Sartin, Wendell West and Brian Ramm.
