Virgie May Wade

Virgie May Wade, age 93, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital. Born July 21, 1933, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Virgie lived a life characterized by warmth, dedication, and a deep love for her family and community.

Virgie’s journey began in Poplar Bluff, the beloved daughter of Truman and Helen Brown. Throughout her years, she demonstrated the virtues of hard work and devotion both at home and beyond. Early in her working life, Virgie was involved in office duties for a machine shop, displaying diligence and resourcefulness, qualities that she brought to all her endeavors. She also found joy and fulfillment cooking for her family and friends, earning praise and appreciation from all those fortunate enough to enjoy her meals.

Her hands were familiar with tending gardens, and she delighted in cultivating the land, nurturing not just plants but the hearts of all around her. An avid shopper and someone with an eye for detail, Virgie found happiness in simple pleasures. Above all, her greatest satisfaction was found in the love she freely gave and received from her family.

Virgie was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Dyersburg, Tennessee, where her faith guided and uplifted her. She developed close bonds within her church family and steadfastly contributed to the life of her congregation, embodying values of kindness, generosity, and service.

A lifelong lover of travel, Virgie especially cherished trips to the beach and the mountains. These journeys brought her immense joy and wonderful memories, symbolizing the adventurous and affectionate spirit she shared with her loved ones.

Virgie is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Alger “Al” Wade of Dyersburg, TN; and her loving daughter, Donna Smith of Madison, MS. Her memory will also be cherished by her brother, Gene Brown of Columbus, GA; her grandchildren: Ryan Brown, Helena Brown, and Savannah Avendano; and several great-grandchildren, each of whom carry forward the legacy of her steadfast love and encouragement.

She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael Smith; her brother, Tommy Brown; her sister, Joann Pickett; and her parents, Truman and Helen Brown. Their memories, together with Virgie’s, remain a source of comfort and roots for the family.

A memorial service for Mrs. Wade will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Hickman officiating. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Virgie May Wade’s life stands as a testament to compassion, commitment, and joyful resilience. While her absence is deeply felt by all who knew her, the many lives she touched continue to shine brightly in her honor.
