Obituary

Vesta Lucile (Parnell) Parker was born October 5, 1928, in Lake County, Tennessee, to the late Finis Parnell and Lillie Bevil Parnell. She was the youngest of six children. She died on October 6, 2013 in Dyersburg, TN.

She was a longtime member of Crockett Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake County, with her current membership at Newbern First United Methodist Church. She was a member of Lizard Lick Old Timey String Band and loved them with all her heart.

She married Curtis Parker, Jr. in June 1946, and he preceded her in death in May 1992. She is survived by two daughters, Lillie Kathryn (Katy) Parker Wright and husband, Larry, of Collinwood, TN and Laura Helen Parker Carnell and husband, Daryl, of Newbern, TN. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Kirby and Kyle Parker, Malissa Carnell Flagg, Emily Carnell Young, Wendy Wright Morgan and Laura Wright Reaves; and eight great-grandchildren, Tommi Leigh Parker, Bethany Faith Parker, Jessie Leigh Moore, John Tyler Morgan, Lynlee Parker Young, Lily Kathryn Flagg, Halle Anne Flagg and Charlotte Elizabeth Flagg. She is also survived by a half-sister, Annie Lou Parnell Pattey of Clinton, KY.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lucile was preceded in death by her siblings; brothers- John, Leonard and Chester Parnell and sisters- Thelma Van Cleave and Marie Williams. Some of her greatest heartaches came with the deaths of her three sons; Charles Robert, Tommy Kirt and Richard Kent; and one great-grandson, Lucian Ray Reaves. She also leaves several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends who loved her.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Mr. Larry Wright officiating. Burial will be in Crockett Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake County, TN, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband and children.

The family will receive visitors from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Larry Wright, Daryl Carnell, Garrett Flagg, John Young, Kirby Parker, Kyle Parker, David Caldwell and Tim Akin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Crockett Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Virginia Rogers, 100 Gooch Road, Tiptonville, TN 38079 or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
