Vernon Edward "V.E." Jones, age 87, of Dyersburg passed away Friday, July 31, 2020, at West TN Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital.

Vernon was born on October 28, 1932 to the late Van Edward Jones and Jewell McDavid Jones. He retired from AT&T with over 46 years of service. He faithfully attended Hillcrest Baptist Church for over 57 years where he also served at a deacon. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 3, 2020 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Rev Lynn King & Rev Gary Durham officiating. Burial will be in Bellevernon Cemetery in Friendship, TN.

The Jones Family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sybil Hicks Jones of Dyersburg; two daughters, Jennifer Pitts (Keith) and Jacqueline Jones, both of Dyersburg; one sister, Patty Peckenpaugh of Dyersburg; and two grandchildren, Lauren Kate Pitts of Memphis and William Edward "Will" Pitts of Dyersburg.

In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Pennington.

Pallbearers will be Paul Alford, Trent Alford, Jeff Lucas, Kim Peckenpaugh, Jason Lucas, and Hal Michael Pennington. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Alford, Malcolm Gean, Toby Horner, Vandal Spoon, Jim Lucas, Jerry Lucas, and Bill Pike.

The family wants to thank Lee Smith, Casandra Robertson and Amy Bonds for the special care they gave to Mr. Vernon.
