Verness Melton, 89, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at The Highlands of Dyersburg.

She was a homemaker, member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and a former member of Dyersburg Home Demonstration.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn King officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 12-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Survivors include her two daughters, Priscilla Melton of Dyersburg and Dawna Ferguson and husband, Lee, of Winter Springs, FL; a sister, Gladnie Hilfiker of Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Robert Rushing and Tammy Fernandez and husband, Luis, all of Winter Springs, FL; two great-grandchildren, Laticia Rushing of Orlando, FL and Justin Rushing of Winter Springs, FL; and two nephews, Church Jarred of Dyersburg and Louis Hilfiker and wife, Linda, of Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lynn Melton; her parents, Mike and May Weidman Jarret; and two sisters, Delta Sue Jarred and Anna Martha Earl.

Pallbearers will be Lee Ferguson, Chuck Jarred, Vandel Spoon, Claude Gaskins, Vernon Jones and Toby Horner.
