Sylvia Lee Shaw (nee Laird), devoted wife and mother, died peacefully in her home on December 18, 2017 in Ridgely, TN. She was 77.
Sylvia was born on June 23, 1940 in Tiptonville, TN to her parents, Andrew Wesley and Freddie Lee Laird. She graduated from Tiptonville High School in 1958, and attended Union University. She married James Hall Shaw in 1961. The Shaws moved to their home on Headden Drive, from where James Hall and Sylvia raised their family, and farmed. James Hall and Sylvia were happily married for 49 years.
Sylvia was a committed Christian. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Ridgely for 56 years. She previously worked at First State Bank in Tiptonville. She and James Hall enjoyed traveling.
Sylvia is predeceased by her father, Andrew W. Laird; her mother, Freddie Laird; and her husband, James Hall Shaw.
She is survived by her daughters, Tracey (Richard) Lahman and Leslie (Richard) Hastings; and 5 grandchildren, Patrick Hastings, Abbey Hastings, Olivia Hastings, Alexandria Lahman and Campbell Lahman.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at First Baptist Church Ridgely with the Rev. John Coleman and the Rev. Mickey Hanks officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the church.
Pallbearers will be Kent Patterson, Rob Shaw, Rick Bingham, Patrick Hastings, Brandon Runions and Fred Wortman. Honorary pallbearer will be Mack Forrester.
The family requests that memorials be directed to First Baptist Church Ridgely.
