Sue Frances Nicks, a cherished member of the Dyersburg community and a devoted soul who graced this world for 94 years, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Dyersburg, Tennessee. Born on April 14, 1932, Sue lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and an indelible warmth that touched the lives of all who knew her.

A lifelong resident of Dyersburg, Sue’s deep roots in the community were evident through her active involvement in the Fowlkes United Methodist Church. She was not only a steadfast member but also dedicated part of the church’s mission, including her time teaching school at Fowlkes United Methodist Church, where she inspired young minds and nurtured a love of learning. Her faith and fellowship were pillars upon which much of her life was built.

Sue’s professional career as a claim adjuster for State Farm Insurance reflected her commitment to fairness and helping others navigate challenges. Beyond her vocation, she found joy and companionship in playing Bridge, a game she loved dearly. Travel was another passion, especially journeys shared with her nieces and nephews, creating treasured memories that underscored her generous spirit.

Perhaps most profoundly, Sue devoted much of her later years to Transitions, an organization she embraced wholeheartedly. Her involvement grew into a central part of her identity, and she was beloved by all the “Transitions girls” who felt her unwavering support and kindness. Sue was also the devoted caregiver to her mother, Flossie McKinney Nicks, reflecting her deep familial devotion.

Sue was known for her ability to listen genuinely, offering a supportive ear and wise counsel. Her love for reading and her intellectual curiosity kept her mind vibrant and engaged throughout her long life. Visitors and friends alike found her company enjoyable and uplifting, as she was truly one of a kind—a fun, special person whose presence brightened any room.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wesley Allison Nicks; her mother, Flossie McKinney Nicks; and her brother, Wesley Allison Nicks, II.

Sue’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her living family members, including her nephews Wesley Allison Nicks, III (Mit) of Counce, Tennessee; Gregg Ford Nicks (Tonya) of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Paul Todd Nicks (Julie) of Sewanee, Tennessee; and her niece Page Parker (Dudley) of Fairview, Tennessee. Her great-nephews Wes Nicks (Krissie) of Nashville, Tennessee, and Wil Nicks (Gretchen) of Merritt Island, Florida, along with her great-nieces Taylor Maumus (Connor) of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Hallie Nicks of Denver, Colorado, also carry forward her memory. Sue was lovingly cared for in her final days by her caregivers Martha Cardwell, Linda Ennis, and Maggie Evans, whose kindness and attentiveness were a comfort to her and her family.

A visitation will be held on May 12, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., followed immediately by the funeral service from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., all taking place at Fowlkes United Methodist Church, located at 51 Fowlkes Street in Dyersburg, Tennessee. These gatherings offer an opportunity for friends, family, and community members to honor Sue’s remarkable life and to celebrate the profound impact she had on so many.

Sue Frances Nicks’s enduring spirit and the loving legacy she leaves behind continue to inspire those who knew her. She was a woman of grace, devotion, and joy—a beacon of light in her community and to her family. Her memory will forever be cherished.
