Sue Frances Baldridge, a long time Memphis resident known as "Miss Sue" or "Aunt Sue," passed away peacefully at The Kings Daughters and Sons Home in Bartlett, TN on April 8, 2026. She was 97.
Sue was born in Trimble, TN on March 28, 1929. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Ada Baldridge of Dyersburg, her two older brothers: John Baldridge of Mobile, Ala. and the Rev. William Baldridge of Rayville, La. and her niece, Sherry Baldridge Johanson of Titusville, FL.
Also preceding her in death was her long-time and loving companion James "Jim" Wade of Memphis.
Sue is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Vail Baldridge of Baton Rouge, LA, nephews: Dave Baldridge (Sue) of St. Charles, MO; David Baldridge (Chrissi) of Atoka, TN; Will Baldridge of Shreveport, LA. and nieces: Kathy Baldridge Sutton (Joey) of Ruston, La; Beth Baldridge Smith of Shreveport, La; and Mary Sue Baldridge Knight (Kirkland) of Highlands, NC.
Sue graduated from Dyersburg High School and continued her education at Barton College and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, studying Home Economics and graduating in 1951. Her career included employment as a marketing and sales representative for companies including Wonder Bread, Proctor & Gamble and Revlon.
She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, having visited all states in the Continental U.S. with the exception of Washington State. Sue also traveled abroad, including visiting Jerusalem, taking three trips to Europe, and journeying to Nova Scotia and other Canadian provinces. She also enjoyed her local take-out "comfort foods" from places like Corky's Barbecue and Marco's Pizza, along with dining out at Perkins and IHOP.
Sue consistently integrated her Baptist beliefs into her daily life. She was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church in Memphis and regularly supported its congregation and mission. Sue also shared many special days and phone calls with her lifelong friend Betty Lane Hudson of Aberdeen, Miss., and is lovingly remembered by many close friends at the Bellevue Woods senior living community in Cordova, TN., where she lived later in life. Though she never married and had no children of her own, Sue dearly loved and often helped care for her three generations of nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Dyersburg Funeral Home, 420 Highway 51 Bypass West, Dyersburg, TN. Visitation there will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Dyersburg Funeral Home. A graveside service will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery, 820 Shelby Drive, Dyersburg, TN.
