Stephen R. Gunter, age 50, of Halls, died on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Med in Memphis, Tennessee.
He was born on December 4, 1961 at Milan Hospital to Alvin R. and Gloria D. Gunter. He grew up in a parsonage home across West Tennessee and Western Kentucky. He joined the Oak Level Church where he professed his faith in Jesus Christ in August 1972. He graduated from Covington High School, in Covington, Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Army during Desert Storm as a radio operator. He married Heather Shupe and from this union came two children, Austin and Elizabeth Gunter. Later he came to the Dyersburg area and worked for the Dyersburg Housing Authority where he worked until his untimely death on October 20. He was a member of Finley United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Steven Cavitt officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
He is survived by his parents, Alvin R. and Gloria D. Gunter; his children, Austin and Elizabeth Gunter and their mother, Heather; one sister, Debra K. Curran and husband, Billy; one nephew, Justin Brock; four aunts; four uncles; and seventeen cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Stephen Andrew and Lalie Elizabeth Holaday and Aaron and Muriel Gunter; one aunt, Juanita Gunter; and two cousins, Timothy Brinkley and Seth Foster.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Wayne Gunter, Michael Foster, Keith Foster, Jeff Wren, Douglas Wren, Johnny Dale Wren and Lynn Brinkley.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Finley United Methodist Church or to Halls High School Band.
