Mr. Scotty Martin Hampton, age 65, of Dyersburg, passed away Saturday Nov. 17, 2018 at Jackson-Madison General Hospital.

He was born October 17, 1953 to Arlene and Ray Hampton, of Dyersburg.  He was a long-time employee of the Dyer County Highway Department, working as a supervisor and assistant commissioner.  Outside of work, he enjoyed visiting friends in Memphis and was an avid car enthusiast.  As a member of the NHRA, he and his friends loved tinkering on old cars and drag racing.

He is survived by his mother, Arlene Hampton, his daughter, Katie Smith, both of Dyersburg, his sister Cherry Dennison and husband, K.W. of Newbern, a niece, Tracey and husband, Doug, a nephew, Trent and wife, Jennifer, great-nephews, Cooper, Bradley & Brett and great-niece, Chloe, five grandchildren, Kourage Montgomery, Makenzie & Kaylin Smith and Ivy & Gideon Junior, as well as two aunts and lots of cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Martin Hampton.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.  A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be K.W. Dennison, Trent Dennison, Tony Pease, Kenny Pease, Bill Pease, Larry Vernon Pease, Ron Butcher, Buster Pylent and the members of the Copperhead Road Racers and the Rough Edges Car Club.

Because Scotty loved and supported the work of St. Jude, the family ask that all memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
