Obituary

Samuel Eaton Reed, 93, of Athens, formerly of Dyersburg, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016 at his granddaughter's residence.

Mr. Samuel Eaton Reed was born on March 17, 1922 in Dyer, TN. He was a resident of Athens since 2010 and was a son of the late Rev. Samuel Eugene and Ludye Neal Reed and was married to Anita Campbell Reed for 58 years, before passing away in 2004. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jean Curtis and Dora Conklin.

In World War II, he was a navigator in the Army Air Corps. He attended the University of Tennessee receiving a B.S. Degree in Agriculture. He taught agriculture in Dyersburg, TN. for 20 years. He helped many boys in the community and kept in touch with them. He affectionately called them "his boys". Later he served as Superintendent of Dyersburg City Schools, Dyersburg, TN. for 20 years. He retired in 1985. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dyersburg where he served as a deacon and moderator for many years. In the last years of his life, he attended Fairview Baptist Church in Athens.

His pride and joy was his farm in Millsfield, TN. He raised cattle, horses and always had a garden. He and his wife, Anita loved to travel.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Janice Reed of Athens and Neal Reed of Charlotte, NC.; two granddaughters, Kristy Heinricy and her husband, Ross of Athens and Jenny Reed of Brooklyn, NY; one grandson, Samuel Thomas Reed of Charlotte, NC.; and great-grandchildren: Reed, Jackson, Andrew, Ali, and Paige Heinricy.

Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday at First Baptist Church in Dyersburg, TN. with Pastor Jack Scallions officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, TN.

Deacons will be serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Baptist Church and 5-7 pm Friday at First Baptist Church in Dyersburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Fairview Baptist Church Building Fund, 261 Co. Rd. 439, Athens, TN. 37303.
