Ms. Ruth Jane Bivens passed away at her home, surrounded by her family and caregivers, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.  Ruth was born September 9, 1931 in Dyer County, TN to the late Lish & Rose Rush Johnson.  She is fondly remembered for her devotion to her family as a homemaker, cooking meals, helping and supporting her family in their farming operations.  She also was well known for her sewing abilities, as a seamstress, repairing, creating and adjusting garments for many in Dyersburg and the surrounding areas.  Her faith in God was significant in her life and she worshipped at McCullough Chapel Baptist Church for most of her life.  In her free time, she loved gardening and watching her hummingbirds.

Ruth is survived by her son, Tim Bivens and wife, Laura, as well as a brother, Larry Johnson and sisters Frances Miller and June Hutcherson.    and was loved as "MawMaw" by her grandson, Andy Bivens and wife, Amanda and their son, Sam.   She is preceded in death by her husband, Olin "Pete" Bivens, her parents, her son, Billy Wayne Bivens and his wife, Emily Bivens, her brothers Bud Johnson, Cleburn Johnson and sisters Lillian Howard, VernaMay McCarthy, Imogene Sawyers, Lovelle Hicks, Pauline Beaird, Linda Cummings and Shelby Tillman.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 2:00. p.m.  Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m.  Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.

The family wish to express their heartfelt appreciation to all those who assisted and cared for Ms. Ruth in her later years.
