Robert Paul "R.P." Richardson, 92, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013 at Hardin Medical Center in Savannah, TN.
Mr. Richardson was a lifelong Dyer Countian. He was born July 19, 1920 in Lenox, Tennessee. He served during World War II in the United States Navy. Mr. Richardson was a 55 year employee of Dyersburg Fabrics. He was a 67-year member of First Baptist Church, Dyersburg, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Business Men's Sunday school class. Mr. Richardson was an avid sportsman playing baseball and refereeing basketball and football.
The family will receive visitors Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Richardson is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Lou Fielden Richardson of Dyersburg; daughters, Kathy Braese and husband, Tom, of Cypress, Texas and Linda Dycus and husband, Elton, of Savannah, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Chris Braese and wife, Amy, of Arlington, TN, Dr. Rob Braese and wife, Lori, of Oklahoma City, OK, Blake Dycus and wife, Ashlee, of Knoxville, TN, Rebekah Braese of Houston, TX and Katie Dycus of St. Louis, MO. He was blessed with 6 great-grandchildren, David Braese, Ann-Marie Braese, Emma Braese, Jack Braese, Judah Braese and Evan Dycus. He is also survived by sisters, Arlene "Toodie" Hampton of Dyersburg, Kay King of Marietta, GA and Bobbie Gray of Olive Branch, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Richardson was preceded in death by his parents, Gaston and Elva Richardson; and six sisters, Loretta Richardson, Anna "Ease" Reed, Joyce Reed, Billie Hopper, Floy "Sis" Campbell and Maxine Coleman.
Pallbearers will be Herman Reed, Tommy Reed, Robert Reed, William Paul Campbell, Scotty Hampton, Billy Freeman Hopper, Lance Gray, Keith Gray, John Vickers and Jim Vickers. Honorary pallbearers will be K.W. Dennison, Tom Foster, Billy Bob Burks, Richie Hopper, Wally Hopper, John Hopper, Kevin Gray, Bill Hampton, the deacons of First Baptist Church and the Business Men's Sunday School Class.
