Obituary

Robert Wesley Hunter of Big Sandy, TN died on Wednesday, April 20 at the age of 77.

Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Margaret (Gooch) Hunter, brother James Richard Hunter of McLean, VA, sons Robert Wesley Hunter, Jr of Knoxville, TN, Richard Kent Hunter and Kristi Hunter of Brentwood, TN and 6 grandchildren, Wes Hunter, Alle Hunter, Annie Hunter of Signal Mountain, TN and Ella Hunter, Joey Hunter and Ava Hunter of Brentwood, TN.

Robert was born on January 15, 1939 in Fulton, KY to Richard and Juanita Hunter. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1958 where he played varsity basketball receiving a basketball scholarship to Murray State University. He married Mary Margaret (Gooch) Hunter of Tiptonville, TN on May 26, 1961. Robert was drafted into the United States Army in 1961 and was stationed at Schofield Barracks on the island of O'ahu, Hawaii where his wife Margaret later joined him with their new son "Bobby".  After moving to Union City, TN, Robert began working for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as an electrician for 31 years.  During that time they welcomed son Kent in 1967.  His sons and grandchildren remember Dad and "Paw Paw" as a loving and fun grandfather who loved to spend time with them.

Robert was known as a quiet man and a good and dependable neighbor. He was a quick wit, sometimes practical joker who loved history and the outdoors, especially fishing on Reelfoot Lake with his wife Margaret.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27 th at 1 PM with funeral to follow at the Tiptonville Chapel of the Dyersburg Funeral Home located at 405 Church St, Tiptonville, Tennessee.  Friends and family are welcome to attend and celebrate Robert's life. Burial will follow at the Grassy Island Unit overlook Tower at Reelfoot Lake.
