Robert S.
"Bob" Kirk
December 27, 1937 – July 16, 2025
Robert S. "Bob" Kirk passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on July 16, 2025. He was 87 years old.
Bob was born on December 27, 1937, in Lenox, Tennessee, to Lear and Virginia Kirk. He often joked that he was born at "Coon Creek," a memory he shared with affection and pride. He grew up alongside his beloved siblings, Jere T. Kirk and Jane Kirk Chapman.
After graduating from Dyersburg High School, Bob proudly served four years in the United States Air Force. He continued his education at Murray State University and later at Memphis State University. He dedicated 33 years of his professional career to Colonial Rubber Works, where he served as Director of Benefits and Safety.
A devoted public servant and community leader, Bob took great pride in his involvement with numerous civic, charitable, and governmental organizations. These included the Kiwanis Club, Jaycees, 911 Board of Directors, Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce, Tennessee Municipal League, Tennessee Bond Fund, Republican Senatorial Inner Circle, Methodist Hospital Foundation, Dyersburg State Community College Foundation, and the United Methodist Church.
Bob served as Alderman for an extraordinary 51 years, making him the longest-serving publicly elected official in the state of Tennessee. In honor of his lifetime of service, the Tennessee Municipal League established the Bob Kirk Community Service Award, presented annually to recognize fellow public servants who embody his spirit of dedication and leadership. Bob cared deeply for his church and, over the past few years, worked tirelessly—along with many others—to open Grace Methodist Church.
He is survived by his son, Carter Kirk (Kasey); grandchildren Jackson, Karlin, and Hudson; Mason McDowell (Blair), Joey Kate, and Morgan; and Anna Carol Cantu (J.D.), Jadan, and Jace Allison.
He was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Amy Allison Kirk; his parents, Lear and Virginia Kirk; his brother, Jere T. Kirk; and his sister, Jane Kirk Chapman.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at Dyersburg Funeral Home from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Grace Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Mike Hickman. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Cole, Chris Young, Justin Hanson, Mickey Mahon, Joe Enoch, Milton Magee and Jay Hollomon. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Green and Ralph Henson.
Bob lived his life by the words of the Jaycee Creed:
"Service to humanity is the best work of life."
His legacy of service, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his community will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in Bob's memory may be made to:
Grace Methodist Church, 2240 Parr Avenue, Dyersburg, TN 38024.
