Richard Alton Hallum, Sr., 82, of Dyersburg, went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
Born on November 19, 1931 in Dyer County, he was the son of the late Jim and Ona Pate Hallum. He was a retired Minister, after serving for 40 years. Richard was a member, Deacon and interim pastor at Holy Hills Baptist Church. He was the founder of Calvary Independent Baptist Church. Mr. Hallum was a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1949-1955. He was an avid baseball fan (Cardinals) and an avid outdoorsman (fishing and hunting). Most of all he loved the Lord, his church family, friends and his country.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeremy Ballinger and the Rev. Billy Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Holy Hills Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Elma Warren Hallum of Dyersburg; a son, Richard A. Hallum, Jr. of Dyersburg; three daughters, Sherrian Tucker and husband, Billy, Terry Sanders, and Tammy Eversole and husband, Rodney, all of Dyersburg; a sister, Betty Hallum of Palmersville; eleven grandchildren, Richard A. Hallum III, Meagan Lacks, Casey Hallum, Erica Newhouse, Leslie Mouser, Emily Tiller, Chris Hunter, Jonathan Hunter, Mandy Hunter, Heather Reedy and Jenny Brown; and eight great-grandchildren, Lydia Goins, Ella Goins, Colton Hunter, Brody Hobson, Brenton Bartlett, Natalie Robbins, Nolan Brown and Gracelyn Hallum.
Pallbearers will be Rob Burg, Hunter Grills, David Hall, Brian King, Tony Lawrence and Rick Marrow. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Green, Richard Hallum III, Chris Hunter, Jimmy Hunter, Jonathan Hunter, Jerry King and Alan Weaver.
