Ray Lee Hurst, 80, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at his residence.

He was born on July 3, 1938, in Dyersburg, TN. Ray was a retired Captain for the Dyersburg Fire Department, formerly worked with the City Cab Company and attended Dyersburg Church of God. He was retired from the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant, where he served in Operation Desert Storm and was a member of the Dyersburg National Guard. In his spare time, he was a farmer, hunter and fisherman. Ray loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all of his family dearly.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 at Dyersburg Church of God with Bro. Billy Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Yance Hurst of Dyersburg; a son, Jimmy Shane Hurst (Mary Jo) of Dyersburg; a daughter-in-law, Angela Hurst of Dyersburg; three sisters, Lyda Bullock of Ripley, MS, Diane Enochs of Dyersburg and Nita Enochs of Ripley, TN; three brothers, Nathan Burns, Thomas Burns and Bobby Burns, all of Dyersburg; four grandchildren, Erica Lowery, Amanda Gibson, Michael Hurst and Gavin Hawks; and five great-grandchildren, Cailey Lowery, Caleb Hawks, Aiden Gibson, Braxton Hawks and Jackson Lowery.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jody Hurst; and his parents, J.T. and Olie Burns.

Pallbearers will be members of the Dyersburg Fire Department.
