Obituary

Ralph Bruce, 82, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and Larry Snell, in Eads, TN following a lengthy illness.

Born July 4, 1928, Mr. Bruce was reared in Dyer County and was the son of the late Sarah Victoria Thompson Bruce and the late Ollie William Bruce, both of Dyersburg. As a manager for Graber's Department Stores, he and his late wife, Mary Edna Shipley Bruce transferred to stores in Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee. Active in community and civic services wherever they lived, Mr. Bruce always preached for rural churches of Christ before returning to their beloved Dyer County in 1978. He then worked for Riggs Building Supply until 1995 and preached for the Pierce Lane Church of Christ until 2006. At his death, he was a member of Parr Avenue Church of Christ.

Mr. Bruce was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Edna Shipley Bruce, also a native of Dyer County. Three sons also preceded him in death: Jimmie Ralph Bruce, Jerry Wayne Bruce and William Lynn Bruce. Three brothers also preceded him in death: Wilson Hilliard, W.H. Bruce and Barton Bruce.

Survivors include his daughter, Maxine (Larry) Snell of Eads, TN; daughter-in-law, Paula Bruce of Huntsville, AL.; three brothers, Edward (Mary Agnes) Bruce of Fairfield Glade, TN., Carl (Glenita) of Dyersburg, TN. and Eugene (Shirley) Bruce of Blytheville, AR.; and two sisters, Delores Juanita (Brown) Harris of Detroit, MI. and Doris (Donald) Kidd of Fayetteville, TN. Survivors also include 7 grandchildren, Mary Lynn (Dana) Wooters of Twinsburg, Ohio, J.W. (Lori) Bruce of Starkville, MS., Martha (Kirk) Stricklin of Decatur, AL., Beverly (Michael) Molloy of Eads, TN., Christy (Carlton) Lincomfelt of Marvell, AR., Kimberly Bruce of Bangor, ME. and Jason Bruce of Pocomoke, MD.; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Don McCaslin officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be J.W. Bruce, Carlton Lincomfelt, Michael Molloy, Jason Bruce, Kirk Stricklin and Dana Wooters.
