Phillip Herbert Vernon, 65, of Tiptonville, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at his residence.
He was a retired master sergeant of the U.S. Air Force, a member of First Baptist Church in Tiptonville, Scottish Rite -- 32nd degree, Harmony Lodge 184 past master, and was retired as a vocational instructor at Northwest Correctional Complex.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today at Hickman City Cemetery in Hickman, Ky., with the Rev. Jerry Leggett officiating.
The family will receive visitors from 1-3:15 p.m. today at the Tiptonville Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Vernon; a daughter, Christy Alexander and husband, Jeff, of Dyersburg; two sons, Joseph Vernon and wife, Sabrina, of Ridgely, and Jon Vernon and wife, Elizabeth, of Tiptonville; and four grandchildren, Chelsea Vernon, Melanie Vernon, Jessica Alexander and Pamela Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Cora Vernon.
Pallbearers will be members of the U.S. Air Force. Honorary pallbearers will be Dwayne Haggard, Jerry Simmons, Gene Lee, Nathan Strain, Jeff Alexander, Steve Jones, J.C. Williams and Tommy Bramlett.
