Phillip C. Humphrey, 83, of Dyersburg, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at his residence.
He was a Korean War Veteran, a former school teacher, loyal friend, and dedicated husband and father. He was a faithful member of the West Dyersburg Church of Christ. He was concerned about the welfare of others and always offered his help. He had the undying respect and love of his children and grandchildren. Mr. Phil made a difference in the lives of many and will greatly be missed.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Mr. Jim Chamblee officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Friday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include two daughters, Monica Tompkins and husband, Mike, of Chattanooga and Marcia Matthews and husband, David, of Toney, AL; a son, Mike Humphrey and wife, Amy, of Bogota; eight grandchildren, Matthew Humphrey, Justin Humphrey, Tucker Humphrey, Eric Tompkins, Rachel Tompkins, Hannah Matthews, Samuel Matthews and Blake Matthews; and two great-grandchildren, Layla Doyle and Gracelyn Humphrey.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Sweet Erma; his parents, Corwin and Bessie Bown Humphrey; and a sister, Minnie Rowe.
Pallbearers will be Randy Gregory, John Pleasant, Pete Pleasant, Pete Riggs, Roger Peterson and Dwaine Johnston. Honorary pallbearers will be Stoy Slaughter, Paul Stevens, Gene Carter and Novis Fisher.
