Perry Allen Wheeler, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, at the Tennessee State Veteran’s Home in Humboldt. Born on December 3, 1940, in Richwood, Tennessee, Perry lived a life marked by service, passion for the outdoors, and unwavering commitment to those he held dear.

He proudly served his country as a Private First Class in the United States Army, exemplifying honor and dedication throughout his military service. After his time in the armed forces, Perry built a rewarding career as a truck driver with Forked Deere Electric, where he faithfully contributed for 32 years before retiring. His dedication extended beyond his profession, as he was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, embodying his continued connection to and respect for fellow servicemen and women.

Perry’s interests were as varied as they were enriching. An avid gardener, he found joy and peace cultivating the earth. Known among his friends and family as a skilled repairer of anything, his hands brought new life to many treasured possessions. His fascination with history was reflected in his passion for collecting arrowheads and knives, as well as his active involvement with the Dyer County Historical Society and Museum, where he generously shared his knowledge and love for Dyer County’s heritage.

The outdoors held a special place in Perry’s heart; he treasured hunting, fishing, and camping, activities that connected him deeply with nature’s beauty. Those who knew him also cherished the simple pleasure he found in coffee drinking, often sharing warm moments with friends over a cup. Perry’s generosity extended to charitable causes close to his heart, including his support for the Dyer County Humane Society and the Salvation Army. Guided by his Methodist faith, he embraced a life of kindness, service, and devotion.

Perry is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Wheeler of Finley, Tennessee; his sons Andy Wheeler and Jonathan Wheeler, the latter married to Stefania, both of Finley; and his daughter Kenna Lacy of Finley. His legacy lives on also through his grandchildren Brooke Garner, Emily Stover, Garrett Wheeler, Nicholas Wheeler, Autumn Paige Wheeler, Bella Wheeler, and Roland Wheeler, as well as his great-grandchildren Sawyer Garner, Ryan Kate Garner, Mack Stover, Leon Wheeler, and Luna Wheeler—all of whom brought him endless joy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Cleveland Wheeler; his mother, Vivian Vaden Wheeler; and his brother, Jerry Doyle Wheeler. Their memories remain cherished by all who knew Perry.
