Obituary

Oscar "Dick" Bruce, 83, of Dyersburg, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at his residence.
He was retired as an elementary school principal for Dyersburg City School System, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II receiving three Purple Hearts in the battle of Iwo Jima, a minister and member of Millers Chapel Church of Christ for 53 years, and a member of the Tennessee Education Association and the National Education Association.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Alan Highers officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The widower of Peggy Love Bruce, survivors include a son, Tim Bruce and wife, Terri, of Arlington, Tenn.; and a grandchild, Megan Bruce Long and husband, Russell, of Charlotte, N.C.

Pallbearers will be Russell Long, Edward Estes, Sam Jung, Butch Jung, Mike Jung and Rodney Strickland.

The family requests that any memorials be directed to Millers Chapel Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society.
