Orrin Hunt, Jr.'s Obituary
Orrin Hunt, Jr., age 83, passed away February 6, 2010 at Carolina House of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
He was born July 29, 1926, at Dyersburg, Tennessee to the late Orrin Hunt and Susie Mae Hunt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nina Sue McNeil and her husband, Oscar.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. James Branscum officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Surviving are his wife, Frances; his son Dan (Pat) of Fairbanks, Alaska; two step-daughters Sara Blaschke (John) of South Riding, Virginia, and Sharon Wilson (Matt) of Dublin, Ohio; six grandchildren; Austin Hunt, Catelyn Nelson, Meghan Nelson, Darby Nelson, Bailey Wilson, and Ethan Wilson; a sister, Virginia Wray of Dyersburg, Tennessee; and two nephews, Jim Wray of Dyersburg and Martin Wray of Houston, Texas.
After high school in Dyersburg, he served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was assigned to the occupation forces in Japan.
Following his discharge, he enrolled in the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he also played on the football team. He then attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, majoring in mechanical engineering.
For 38 years, his professional career was with the E.I. DuPont de Nemours Company of Wilmington, Delaware in the Engineering Department, Construction Division. He worked at various sites in Delaware, South Carolina, Ohio, and Texas.
He enjoyed farming and agriculture and owned and operated farms in South Carolina and Georgia for many years.
Following his retirement in 1985, he and his wife moved to Hilton Head Island where he was an avid golfer as a member of the Port Royal Golf Club. He served on the Board of the Port Royal Plantation Landowners Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hilton Head Island.
Pallbearers will be Jim Wray, David Wray, Matt Wilson, John Blaschke, and Martin Wray.
