Obituary

Opal Jones, 99, of Dyersburg, died Friday, August 5, 2011 at The Bridge at Ridgely.

She was a nursing home aide for Oakwood Manor, homemaker and a lifelong member of Fowlkes United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. John Lowrance and Mr. Larry Fowlkes officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Cindy Allen and husband, David, of Dyersburg; two great-grandchildren, Julie Thedford and husband, David, and Kelli Allen, all of Dyersburg; a step-son, Larry Fowlkes and wife, Margie, of Dyersburg; a son-in-law, Buck Porch of Dyersburg; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Jones; two daughters, June Johnson and Virginia Porch; her parents, Charley and Lena Davenport Sorrell; five sisters, Audrey Wise, Ruby Gamble, Jewell Mallard, Ladell Sorrell and Nadine Haggard; two brothers, Ewell Sorrell and Earl Sorrell; and a granddaughter, Connie Johnson Underwood.

Pallbearers will be Bob Kirk, Nathan Mallard, Ronnie Doss, Harry Smith, Herman Hunter and Tommy Eison, Jr. Honorary pallbearer will be Eugene Stutts.

The family requests that memorials be directed to The Gideon International or Fowlkes United Methodist Church.
