Obituary

Opal Gannon Edwards, 99, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Canterbury Place in Dyersburg.

She was retired as a teacher from Dyer County School System following 28 years teaching in Heloise, Richwood and Finley, and a member of Finley United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Nancy Brown and the Rev. Bob Rose officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at 5:30-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters, Carole Smith of Dyersburg and the Rev. Nancy Brown and husband, the Rev. Larry Brown of Lancaster, Calif.; a son, Bob Edwards and wife, Gail, of Humboldt; a daughter-in-law, Marge Edwards of Stafford, Va.; eight grandchildren, Capt. Harry Edward and wife, Darlene, of Stafford, Va., Anita Fesmire and husband, David, of Cedar Grove, Jeanne Houck and husband, Chris, of Medina, Dr. Chloe Bird and husband, Dr. Allen Fremont of Santa Monica, Calif., Cindy Bird and husband, Dr. David Bott, of Baltimore, Md., David Brown of Lancaster, Calif. and Carol Brown and Jonathan Brown, both of Simi Valley, Calif.; and 12 great-grandchildren, Rachel and Tracey Edwards, Alyssa, Adrienne and Alaina Fesmire, Cody, Hannah and Noah Houck, Jeremy and Evan Bird Fremont and Langley and Lillian Bott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Edwards; a son, Bill Edwards; and her parents, John Quincy and Ola Gannon.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Brown, Alyssa Fesmire, Adrienne Fesmire, Alaina Fesmire, Rachel Edwards and Cody Houck.

The family requests that any memorials be directed to Finley United Methodist Church.
