Norma Glynn Jernigan, 102, of Dyersburg, passed away on Sunday, Feb 15, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Mrs. Jernigan was born in Gibson Co. on February 6, 1913. She graduated from Dyersburg High School where she played on the basketball team. She attended Memphis State University for 2 years. She married in 1933 and was married for 52 years.
Mrs. Jernigan was a homemaker who dedicated her life to serving God, her family, and her community. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dyersburg for over 70 years. There she established the church library and served as librarian and children's Sunday School teacher. She was an active Boy Scout supporter and Cub Scout den mother. Mrs. Jernigan was one of the founders of McIver's Grant Public Library where she served on the board of directors and as librarian for many years. Throughout her life she inspired others with her ever-present patience, humor, and kindness.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Crocker officiating. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 12:00 to 1:30 P M Friday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include her daughter; Mary Ann and husband, Dr. Fred Wittber, of Dyersburg; a son, Dr. Jerry Jernigan of Dyersburg; six grandchildren, Dr. Glynn Wittber, John Wittber and wife, Ami, Dr. Fred Wittber, Dr. Rebecca Rothrock, Jenny Smith and husband, Harry Smith, Jr., Tevvy Hollingsworth and husband, Jeremiah; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jernigan was preceded in death by her husband, Burrell R. Jernigan; a son, Russ Jernigan; her parents, Willie and Ellis Beset Pinckley; and two brothers, Clifford Pinckley and Paul William Pinckley.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Max Crocker, John R. Wittber, Dr. Fred M. Wittber, Dr. Douglas Haynes, Dr. Richard Martin, Billy Cloar, Milton Magee and Danny Gwinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Fred J. Wittber, Dr. Jerry Jernigan, Jan Hudson, Jack Todd, Richard Donner, Albert Fowlkes, Paul Lee and George Robertson.
The family requests that memorials be directed to First Baptist Church or to McIver's Grant Public Library Foundation.
