Obituary

Nettie Jo Barbee Shell was born October 2, 1932 passed on to heaven April 15, 2015.

The only child of Carl and Lillie Barbee, Nettie Jo was from and lived in Ridgely, TN for 81 years. Nettie was married to the late Isaac Shell, Jr. for 60 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy Dennison Fisher and husband, Richard, of Medina and Carla Miller and husband, Dick, of St. Petersburg, FL. Nettie leaves eight grandchildren, Sara Dennison Fuller and husband, Dan, Michael Dennison and wife, Audra, Chesley Dennison and wife, Jenny, Chris Miller, Garrett Miller, Sally Fisher Via and husband Mike, Rick Fisher and wife, Rosemary and John Fisher and wife, Becky; and nineteen great-grandchildren, Zac, Liza, Jozie, Sophia, Bella Rose, John, Ryan, Ricky Dean, Lilli Rose, Hal, Martha, Dominic, Max, Gabe, Ella, Jack, Lucas, Olivia, and Hank.

Nettie attended Ridgely High School, where she was a standout basketball player. She and Isaac farmed early years of marriage. Nettie began work outside her home in Ridgely Manufacturing Company, then at Naifeh's Dry Goods and then worked 15 years as director of Ridgely Senior Citizen Center. She and Isaac loved working with the seniors and together served in many civic organizations. Nettie was a member of The Ridgely Woman's Club and had served on the Board of Alderman in Ridgely. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ridgely. Nettie loved her little town and had a very good life there.

In June 2014, she moved to Jackson, TN to Brookdale Jackson Oaks to be closer to family. She made many new and wonderful friends. Nettie instilled hard work, service to others, and dedication and a never give up attitude. She will be missed dearly, but the family knows she has been escorted into heaven by the hand of Jesus and reunited with loved ones gone before. The family will forever be thankful for such a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved much and was loved much.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to the youth and children's ministry of First Baptist Church Ridgely, TN.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the Ridgely Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Ridgely Chapel with Bro. Jack Henry officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery.
