Merle C. Carter, 83, of Dyersburg, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Merle was a graduate of Halls High School and was a member of Chi Omega at Union University.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Cavness and Bro. Michael Crandall officiating. Burial will take place on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Oakview Memorial Park in Alamo. Friends and family members are asked to meet at the cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include her two sons, Stan Cavness and wife, Cathy, and Gale Cavness and wife, Tina, all of Dyersburg; a sister, Stella Forrester and husband, O'Neal, of Florida; a brother, Larry Cooper of Shelbyville; four grandchildren, Stephen Cavness and wife, Christi, Stephanie King and husband, Tracy, Amanda Cavness and Ally Cavness; and four great-grandchildren, Charlie Cavness, Piper Cavness, Cameron King and Alex King.
She was preceded in death by her late husband's, Joe Carter of Alamo and the late Rev. Ray Cavness of Halls; and her parents, R.J. and Ruth Summers Cooper.
