Maurice A. Mears, 75, of Dyersburg, TN formerly of Barre, VT passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025 with his beloved wife, Virginea (Deforge) Mears by his side. He was met by his beloved son, Erik Mears.
Maurice "Mo" was born on March 23, 1949, at Montpelier Norton Hospital, the son of Maurice and Catherine Mears. Mo attended Converse School in Burlington, North Barre Elementary School in Barre and Spaulding High School in Barre.
Mo, upon reaching the age of 18, enlisted in the military and served his country in the Vietnam War. Upon returning home he fell in love, got engaged and married the love of his life, Virginea (Deforge) Mears. Mo previously worked for the City of Barre for 25 years working for the Street Department. Mo had his own plow truck with his nickname on it. He then went on to work for the Department of Transportation before retiring.
Mo enjoyed hunting and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and NASCAR. He also enjoyed watching college football. Mo also known as Papa to his beloved grandchildren loved his family and was so proud of each and every one of their accomplishments and was not afraid to let them know how much he loved them.
Visitation for Mo Mears will be Friday, February 7, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at Dyersburg Funeral Home. A full military funeral on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Details will be given when finalized.
Mo aka Papa leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Virginea (Deforge) Mears; his three daughters, Sara (Mears) Young and her spouse, Nathan Young and their two daughters, Emma and Natalie; Keri (Mears) Smith and her spouse, Scott Smith, and their sons, Gabriel, Jack and Henri; and Kelly Mears and her fiancée, Garon Perdue; and her daughters, Jillian, Alexandria and Sophia; and his two grandsons, Quinn and Wyatt Mears and a bonus grandson, Jayke Yandow. His brother, Michael Mears. Mo has many family members, extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Mo is predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Catherine Mears; his sister, Marikay Mears; his brother, Phillip Mears; his sister, Joyce Reid; his in-laws, Warren and Judy Deforge; and his beloved son, Erik Mears.
