Mattie Clyde Lloyd (Loyd) Chandler, 98 and a half, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Dyersburg Manor (AHC).
Mattie was born on December 20, 1923, to the late Clyde & the late Lula Belle Williams Loyd. Her husband of 58 years, Phil Chandler, preceded her in death on September 11, 2005. She was a member of Eastern Star and former Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls. She was a Cradle roll superintendent at First Assembly of God, where she was also a Leader of Christ Ambassadors and elected Mother of the Year in 1972. Mattie was the Secretary of Women's Missionary Group, where she was a member for 72 years. She worked at F.W. Woolworth and Dyersburg Army Air Base (DAAB) in Halls, TN. She worked at Milan, TN Arsenal Plant during World War II in 1943. She was an active member of Woodmen of World, a 50 year member, and received "The Good Neighbor" Award in 2005. She also worked at Chandler Home Furnishings. She was a charter member of Dyersburg Crochet Guild. She was a civic activist who successfully worked to protect Dyersburg and Dyer County when the PCB Chemical plant was trying to come to town. She was Mother to many, Nana and GiGi, the unofficial title as Queen of Party Line, decoupager, crocheter, fudge maker extraordinaire, prayer warrior, and strong woman of God.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia (Dennis) Beck of Franklin, TN, and Kathy (Jimmy) Cooper of Dyersburg, TN; three grandchildren Edie Catherine (Bob) Simmons of Dyersburg, TN; Jenny (Jerry) Seratt of Oxford, MS; Richard (Danielle) Beck of Kingsport, TN; four great-grandchildren Ava Seratt, Cooper Seratt, and Ella Kate Simmons. She was lovingly looking forward to the arrival of a grandson Riley Chandler Beck to be here in August. Her adopted by choice daughters include Janet Greer, Beverly Fowlkes, Leeann Paschal, and Kathy Anderson.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Seratt, Bob Simmons, Jeff Bennett, Craig Gregory, Steve Guttery, and Jason Harper. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Beck, Steve Anderson, Jack Claiborne, Chuck Richardson, Chuck Wade, and Ken Webb.
Visitation will be at Dyersburg Funeral Home Tuesday, July 26 from 5 p.m.–7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 27 at 1 p.m officiated by Rev. Jeff Ogg. Family will accept visitors before the service at 12 noon. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery immediately following the service.
