Mary Ellen Stevens, 70, of Bonicord, TN, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

She was born on February 27, 1948, in Tennemo, TN to the late Edward Lindsey Deaton and the late Mary Elizabeth Stokes Deaton. Mary was retired from the packing department at Tupperware and was a member of Phillips Street Church of God. She loved her family and church family, loved to write poems, cooking and gardening.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Davis officiating. Burial will be in Bellevernon Cemetery in Friendship.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Billy Stevens of Bonicord; a son, Dewayne Stevens of Dyersburg; two daughters, Tracy Purvis and Angie Wilson (Kevin), all of Dyersburg; a brother, Lindsey Deaton (Jackie) of Halls; three sisters, Pauline Leake (Aubrey) and Janis Meadows, all of Dyersburg and Catherine Jones (Eddie) of Ripley; three grandchildren, Allison Damas (Brad) of Knoxville, Adam Purvis (Claire) of Newbern and Austin Purvis (Haley) of Dyersburg; and two great-grandchildren, Nash Taylor Damas and Nori Ann Hope Purvis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Deaton and Roger Deaton.

Pallbearers will be Adam Purvis, Austin Purvis, Stephen Leake, Jason Funderburk, Jason Jones and Brad Damas. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Funderburk, Scotty Leake, Charles Jr. Moore, Johnny Jones and Jeff Moore.
