Mary Ruth Hailey, 91, of Newbern, passed peacefully on July 11, 2013. In her last days she was a resident of Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Dyersburg where she was treated with gentle and loving care.


She was a long time member of West Dyersburg Church of Christ and taught children and ladies Bible classes for over 60 years.


Visitation will be from 5-8 on Monday evening, and services are set for 10 AM Tuesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home, with her brother, Parks Thurmon officiating.


Burial will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens in Dyersburg.


Mrs. Ruth was born January 5, 1922, in Elbridge, the daughter of the late James E. Thurmon and Ira Wilson Thurmon. She was married to Hugh Earl Hailey who died on June 11, 1991. She is preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.


Mrs. Ruth is survived by two sons, Glenn Hailey of Memphis, and Dr. Mel Hailey of Abilene, Texas. In addition she leaves behind five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Thurmon and Parks Thurmon, both of Dyersburg.; and many nieces and nephews.
