Marie Pate Hollingsworth, 89, of Finley, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was a retired school teacher that taught at various schools including, Sacramento, KY School, Ayers School, Richwoods School, Nauvoo School, Finley Elementary and Jennie Bell School. She was a 1945 graduate of Dyersburg High School. She also graduated from Union University in 1948 after completing her degree in three years. Mrs. Hollingsworth was a member of Ayers Methodist Church. She retired from teaching in 1975 to work full time with her husband and sons on the family farm, which was a very important part of her life until she passed away. She was a lifelong resident of the Ayers Community in Dyer County.
The Hollingsworth family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include her two sons, Jerry Pate Hollingsworth and wife, Sandra, and George Spencer Hollingsworth and wife, Judy; two daughters, Henri Ellaine Hollingsworth and Docia Bea Hollingsworth; twelve grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren, all of Finley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Houston Hollingsworth; her parents, Thomas Henry Pate, Sr. and Effie Eleanor Hancock Pate; three sisters, Tommye Ellaine Pate Coleman, Beatrice Lavina Pate Tubbs, and Margaret Pate; and a brother, Thomas Henry "Bud" Pate.
The Hollingsworth Family requests that memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
