Margaret Ann Stallings Roberts died peacefully at home in her garden room, June 30, 2010, surrounded by family. She most enjoyed entertaining, from formal weddings to hunting dinners to family swim parties. She opened her home to countless clubs, class reunions, and friends.
Her last weekend, she hosted a family gathering from her bed and visited with all her loved ones.
She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church. Active in many community organizations, she was the first president of the Dyersburg Jaycettes, the president of two garden clubs, and superintendent of the Women's building at the Dyer County Fair for many years.
Visitation will be at the family home Windy Hill, 2511 Hwy 51 South from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 Friday, July 2, 2010.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Fairview Cemetery conducted by Dr. David Russell. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, J. Pat Roberts of Dyersburg, four children: Jim Roberts of Ubud, Bali, Indonesia; Jane Roberts Gibson and husband Larry, Betty Roberts Carraway and husband Richard; and Jerry Roberts and wife Dianne all of Dyersburg. She also considered former exchange student Sara Tolosa McElroy of Newbern as a daughter. Other survivors include her sister Doris Welborn and husband Paul of New Albany, Mississippi. She leaves nine grandchildren, Scott Gibson, Tim Gibson Amy Gibson Gregson, Robert Carraway, Brad Carraway, David Roberts, John Roberts, Patrick McElroy, and Laura McElroy Petrie. Also, fourteen great grandchildren Jack Gibson, Bridget Gibson, Kate Gibson, Hallie Gibson, Ava Gibson, Mattie Gregson, Jake Gregson, Patrick Carraway, Marshall Carraway, Graham Carraway, Hannah Carraway, Chloe Carraway, Emily Grace Roberts, Jacob Roberts.
She was preceded in death by her father Ed Stallings and her mother Cornelia Klyce Stallings.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Dyersburg Dyer County Union Mission and First United Methodist Church of Dyersburg.
