Obituary

The Reverend (Joy) Lynn Drumwright passed from this earth to heaven on August 11, 2020. Lynn was born on November 22, 1931 in Lauderdale County, Tennessee, the fifth of seven sons of J. W. and Zelia Mae Drumwright. He attended Whitefield Assembly of God Church in Lauderdale County as a youngster and went to Ripley High School where he met and then in 1949 married the love of his life, (Emma) Charlene Thompson, who preceded him in death.

Lynn was a minister, educator, and electrician. He started his career as a lineman for Ripley Power and Light Company, was called to the ministry, later became an elementary school teacher, and a high school Psychologist and Counselor. He was an ordained minister for the Assembly of God Church, serving as pastor in Murfreesboro, TN; East Prairie, MO; Aguadilla, Puerto Rico; Southside Assembly of God in Dyersburg; and finally, the Cornerstone Church of God in Dyersburg.

He loved education, both as a student and a teacher. He held a degree in Seminary Studies from Southwestern Bible College in Texas, a Bachelor of Arts from Middle Tennessee State University, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Southeastern Missouri State University, A Master of Arts in Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico, and an EDU degree from Memphis State University. He taught elementary and junior high students in Anniston, MO; Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico; and then served the students of Dyersburg High School as Director of Counseling Services from 1969 until 1994.

Lynn has two sons Gerald Lynn (married to Terry Lynn) of Collierville, TN and Terry Lee (married to Susan) Drumwright of Humboldt, TN. He has six grandchildren Evan (married to Suzanne) Drumwright of Memphis, TN; Alison (married to Lucius) Mhoon of Springdale Arkansas; Laura Alford of Newbern, TN; Jennifer Wells of Newbern, TN; Christopher (married to Layne) Goode of Fayetteville, NC; and Ashley (married to Andrew) Gaffka, of Port Orange, FL. He has eleven great grandchildren.

The Reverend Lynn Drumwright spent his life in service to GOD and others. His unselfish and tolerant nature, his warmth, and light hearted approach led him to be able to minister both through the church and school to thousands of people. His greatest hope was that through his ministry other lives could be special.
