Lucille Dyer Parmenter, 92, of Dyersburg died Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
The eldest of six children, Lucille was born April 9, 1918 in the Ranger community of Madison County to Jesse Edgar and Eula Jones Dyer. Her siblings were W.C. Dyer, Dora Pauline Bridges, James Dyer, Betty Jo Dyer, and Billy George Dyer. After her mother's death in 1935, her father married Novera Tate adding six more brothers and sisters to the family: William Tate, Fred Tate, Kathryn Braden, Irene Moss, Pauline Varnadore, and Nora Selbach.
In 1937 Lucille married Bill Parmenter and moved to the Lenox community where she began rearing her family: Billy Edward Parmenter, Shirley Faye Gibson, Doris Ann Karlgaard, Linda Jean Foster, Patsye Carol Jones, and Dianna Lynn Flatt.
While living in Lenox she became an active member of the Lenox Baptist Church and was also involved with the Lenox Elementary School PTA where she served as president. After moving to Newbern in 1960, Lucille became an active member of Fort Hudson Baptist Church. As a member of Fort Hudson Baptist, she helped purchase the land and build the current church facility allowing the church to move from the old Dyer County bus maintenance building on the old Fort Hudson Road to its present site.
In 1976 Lucille became an employee of Dyersburg Fabrics in the Cloth Finishing Department as a knitter. During her fourteen years at the "Mill" she made many friends among her co-workers who lovingly called her "Mammy" because she was always baking sweets for them to eat.
She is survived by her son, Billy Edward Parmenter and wife Janie of Dyersburg; three daughters, Shirley Gibson, Patsye Jones and husband Shelton, of Dyersburg, and, Dianna Flatt of Newbern; eight grandchildren: Kym Sanders and husband Carey of Greenfield, TN; Allen Voss and wife Jessica of Oakland, TN; Marty Gibson and wife Shelley of Dyersburg; Heather Stephens and husband Chris of Newbern; Christopher Jones and wife Heather of Dyersburg; Matthew Jones and wife Chelsea of Wylie, TX; Tyler Flatt of Brooklyn, NY; and, Whitney Flatt of Newbern. She is survived by three great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn Sanders of Greenfield; Gavin Voss of Oakland; and, Ayden Jones of Dyersburg. In addition, she is also survived by three brothers: W.C. Dyer and wife Susie of Griffith, IN; Fred Tate and wife Sue of Oliver Springs, TN; and, William Tate of Herrin, IL; and three sisters: Kathryn Braden and husband Sam of Oliver Springs, TN; Pauline Varnadore and husband Ted of Oak Ridge, TN; and Irene Moss of Clinton, TN.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Bill Parmenter; two daughters, Linda Foster and Doris Karlgaard; her father, Jesse Edgar Dyer; her mothers Eula Jones Dyer and Novera Tate Dyer; three sisters, Polly Bridges, Betty Jo Dyer and Nora Selbach; and, two brothers, Billy George Dyer and James Dyer.
The Parmenter family will receive friends for visitation from 5 until 8 pm Friday, May 28, 2010 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 am Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Reverend Don Layman and Reverend Tom Pirtle officiating. Interment will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Marty Gibson, Allen Voss, Christopher Jones, Matthew Jones, Tyler Flatt and Jerry Patton. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters; Kymbala Sanders, Heather Stephens and Whitney Flatt. Special friends serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jim Ennis, Joe Elmore,Ralph Stanbrough, Bill Ables and Brian Pride.
