Leroy Welborn Neal, 88, of Jackson, formerly of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Tennessee State Veteran's Home in Humboldt.
He was a retired flight service specialist for Federal Aviation Administration, member and deacon of Phillips Street Church of Christ and an U.S. Air Force Veteran of WWII. He was a member of Memphis Amateur Antique Radio Club, Ham Radio Club and Operator since 1952, Amateur Radio Flyers Club, member of 15th and 450th Air Force Association, former FAA Flight Instructor and Flight Examiner of Dyer Municipal Airport from 1962-1984, former member of the Civil Air Patrol, Honorary Board member of Halls Army Air Base Museum and a member of Forked Deer Antique Car Club, for which he named.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Golson and Mr. Edgar Shults officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Polly Jernigan Neal of Jackson; two daughters, Kathy Neal Colley(Charles), of Jackson and Cynthia Neal Burgin (Chris), of Mt. Washington, KY.; four grandchildren, Paige Edwards and Jennifer Milam, both of Nashville, Christy Holt of Louisville, KY. and Heather Tyler of Greenville, IN.; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ora Moore Neal; four brothers, William Neal, Charles Neal, Joe Neal and Jim Neal; one half brother, Chester Norvile; and five half sisters, Sarah Lou Clark, Mary Sue Fortner, Monnie Wyrick, Maggie Whittington and Mattie Jones.
Pallbearers will be Billy Bivens, Tim Bivens, Clifford Hopgood, Brodie Cupples, Sammy Arnold and Bill Neal.
