Leonard Oliver VanDyke, 88, of Dyersburg, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Pine Meadows Nursing Home in Bolivar, TN.
He was a retired technician for Bell South. Mr. Leonard was a member of First Baptist Church, a Mason and Past Master. He coached kitty league baseball and was a former Boy Scout Leader. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include his son, Joe VanDyke and wife, Wendy, of Bolivar; a sister, Mary Helen Mayo of Huntsville, AL; and two grandchildren, Spencer VanDyke of Batesville, MS and George VanDyke of Bolivar.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine "Gerry" VanDyke; and his parents, George and Lucy Lewis VanDyke.
Pallbearers will be James Earl McDaniel, Vernon E. Jones, Frank Horner, Bob Newbill, Albert Ward, and Edgar Shults, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Stevens and Jack Claiborne.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Boy Scout Troop 95 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 12940 South Main Street, Somerville, TN 38068.
