Obituary

L.D. "Don" Pennington, 86, of Dyersburg, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Methodist Hospital in Germantown.

He was chairman emeritus at Forcum-Lannom Contractors, LLC. Employed by Forcum James Company in 1952, he advanced through the ranks becoming President in 1983. Mr. L.D. was a Member of Executive Committee and Board of Directors at First Citizens National Bank and was Chairman of Board with Dyersburg Electric System. Some of his recent civic activities include, Member of Board of Directors with Dyersburg Vocational Training Center, Chairman-Four Rivers Tech Prep Consortium Committee with Dyersburg State Community College and a volunteer working with Port Authority Board, Elected Officials and Government Agencies to build Mississippi River Port and Industrial Park, that was a major development for Northwest Tennessee. His former civic activities include Chairman of University of Tennessee at Martin Development Committee, Member Executive Committee of Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce, President of Greater Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce, President of Dyersburg Country Club and Member and Director of Kiwanis Club. Special awards include Outstanding Business Man, 1980 for Dyersburg/Dyer County, Dyer County Humanitarian of the Year in 2000 and the Paul Harris Award presented by Dyersburg Rotary in 2001. Mr. Pennington was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he held most all church offices and was formerly a member of Administrative Board, Finance Committee and Chairman of Board of Trustees.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. David Russell officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Christine Perkins Pennington of Dyersburg; a daughter, Betty Sue Pennington of Dyersburg; a son, Donald Ray Pennington and wife, Molly, of Dyersburg; and two grandchildren, Kaley Ray Pennington and Parks Evan Pennington, both of Nashville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Minnie Fuqua Pennington; two sisters; and six brothers.

Pallbearers will be David Taylor, J.B. Glass, Bob Warren, Jeff Agee and Paul Carson. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Forcum-Lannom Contractors and the Board of Directors of First Citizens National Bank.
