Lawanda Joan Nichols, 79, of Ridgely, TN, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024 at her residence.

Lawanda was born on March 31, 1945, in Armorel, AR to the late Vernon Elmer Coleman and Lillian Beatrice Jordan Coleman. A beloved member of the Broadmoor Church of Christ, she was known for her love of fellowship and her dedication to her church community. As a secretary for the Dyer County School System for over 40 years, she was committed to her work and valued by her colleagues. She had a passion for bargain shopping and cherished spending time with her family. A wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, she took great joy in caring for her family, especially her husband.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2024 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Don Reel and Bro. Bill Haynie officiating. Burial will follow in New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely, TN.

The family will be receiving friends prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until the service time.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, James Nichols of Ridgely, TN; two sons, Scott Nichols of Bogota, TN and Jonathan Nichols of Kingsport, TN; two grandchildren, Chloe DeSpain and husband, Conner, and Luke Nichols, all of Dyersburg, TN; a great-granddaughter, Maci Nichols; two sisters-in-law, Dianne Crawford and husband, Rick, of Dyersburg, TN and Ruby Lay of Ridgely, TN; and her best friend, Margie Fowlkes of Dyersburg, TN.

In addition to her parents, Lawanda was preceded in death by her sister, Sylvia Yates.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tucker Humphrey, Justin Humphrey, Tanner Nichols, Tyler Nichols, Scotty Johnson, Michael Kirk, Conner DeSpain and Matthew Humphrey.
