Laverne Newman Walton, 86, of Dyersburg, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014 at her residence.
She was a homemaker and caregiver. She was a charter member of Lakeview Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. In her earlier years, she enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She spent her life caring for her family and many friends. Many would say Grandma's house was always where you were the most comfortable. She enjoyed cooking and made an assortment of candies every year at Christmas. She was an avid gardener and loved tending to her many flowers.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Pirtle officiating. Burial will be in Haynes Memorial Gardens in Tiptonville.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her two daughters, Kathy Laverne Walton Pierce of Little Rock, AR and Kay Walton Weaver and husband, George, of Dyersburg; five grandchildren, Lewis Walton, Jr. (Katrina), Chris Walton (Teresa), Vicki Starling (John), Shane Hamilton (Lisa) and Lucas Hamilton (Lacey); and nine great-grandchildren, Drew Walton, Jackson Hamilton, Jameson Hamilton, Matthew Walton, Ella Grace Hamilton, Pierce Starling, Abby Walton, Lily Kate Hamilton and Walton Starling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Albert Walton; a son, Lewis Wayne Walton; her parents, James and Lena Chappell Newman; a brother, James Newman; five sisters, Octie Bone, Catherine Johnson, Ruth Argo, Para Daniels and Margaret Isbell; and a great-grandchild, Bailey Grace Hamilton.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris Walton, Lucas Hamilton, Shane Hamilton and great-grandsons, Matthew Walton, Jameson Hamilton and Jackson Hamilton.
